We arrange global opportunities for the UK further education sector.

We provide free&funded support to FE organisations to manage funding applications for the Turing Scheme. Through our network, we manage and deliver global placements for these partners.

We work with independent training providers, along with colleges and apprenticeship organisations.

Our support for partners covers everything from grant applications to coordinating international placement delivery.

We want to do our bit to promote international opportunities for organisations across the UK FE sector.

Our team provide this support upfront for free. Our partner placement organisation receives payment through the DfE grant only when learners participate in our network’s global placements (those are detailed here: www.go-to.co).

For free: once we win you the funding, our expert partners will end-to-end manage all aspects of the international placement, including grant administration, pre-departure preparation, placements, accommodation, insurance, flights, pastoral support, and more.

Who We Are

Further Afield supports UK FE sector organisations and their learners, to embark on exciting, fun and free life-changing global placements. We work with independent learning providers, apprenticeship organisations, colleges and even universities.

We are Turing Scheme experts for overseas education placements. Our leadership team have hosted 3,000+ UK students on Turing Scheme projects since the first year (2021).

What is The Turing Scheme?

The foundation that underpins the international opportunities that we offer to our members is funding from the Turing Scheme. This is the UK’s programme for studying, working & living abroad, offering opportunities for personal and professional student development to bridge the gap between education and work. Funding is generously offered to all students on eligible UK FE courses.

What do the international placements look like?

Types of Work Placements:

Short internships and longer fellowships.

We arrange 2,4,8, and 12+ week global work placements in education settings, principally in Thailand and Vietnam.

Everything is arranged for the learner and our network partner’s coordinators provide constant support.

We also career placement opportunities -with perks and great salaries! These run for 6-12 months. Particularly suited to graduates of apprenticeships and bootcamps. As part of this, learners will be guided through an Ofqual L3-5 TEFL course. These take place in Thailand. Apprentices would join in groups of 20-30 adults for these opportunities.

Destinations

Our placement provision partner’s expertise is broad -with hosts all over the world. Their coordinator team work across a network of over 100 partners. For FE partnerships, we focus on our most popular two destinations of Thailand and Vietnam.

Our founding team setup this project while studying Chinese together at Oxford – we then ran projects in China for a decade! Post pandemic, we went global and now offer programmes across Southeast Asia and Europe.
